George Evans Farned
George Evans Farned, longtime Okmulgee dairyman, died Sunday evening, August 1, 2004 at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital. He was 85 years of age. Mr. Farned was born April 20, 1919 in Houston, Mississippi to Fred G. and Lettie (Burns) Farned. He moved with his family at a young age to Okmulgee. He served his country in the United States Army in World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He married Mary Gasaway on February 2, 1946 in Okmulgee and together they owned and operated a dairy south of Okmulgee. He also worked at various placed around Okmulgee throughout his life. He was a member of Butler Memorial Methodist Church. Mr. Farned was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son. Survivors include his wife, Mary (Mickey) Farned, of the home, a son, Oscar Dale Farned of Okmulgee, two sisters, Elizabeth Purvine of Okmulgee and Kathryn McCormack of Pearland, Texas, one grandson, and three great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Don Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee. Casketbearers will be Marvin Farned, Bobby Purvine, Jerry Purvine, Donald Evans McCormack, Steve Gasaway, and Mark Stevenson. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
