Mary Jewell (Garman) Matthews

Mary Jewell (Garman) Matthews, 86, of Okmulgee passed away at a Henryetta Nursing Center on Sunday. She was born on April 18, 1917 at Mayesville, Delaware County, OK to Lee Andrew and Sophia Izora Frances (Wooden) Garman. She married Ira Thomas Harrison Matthews on December 5, 1936 in Drumright, ,OK. She was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church in Henryetta.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ira Matthews, a son Tommie S. Matthews, grandson William Robert Thomas Drye, three sisters Edna Grey, Etta Blevins, Mae Billings and Brother Earl Garman.

Survivors include two daughters Charlene Drye and her husband William of Okmulgee, Twila Clothier and her husband William of Tehachapi, CA, two sons James Matthews and his wife Helen of Morris,

And Danny Matthews of Sapulpa, daughter in law Bonnie R. Matthews of Sand Springs, two sisters Lucille Hancock of Drumright and Juanita Lorett and her husband Jack also of Drumright, OK, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Matthews will be 10:00 am on Friday, November 19, 2003 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee with Reverend Lawrence Matlock of the Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee.

Viewing will be from 9:00 am until 8:00 pm on Thursday, November 20, 2003 at the Funeral Homes Chapel.

Casketbearers will be Joseph Shrewsbury, James Shrewsbury, Orville Blevins, Howard Blevins, Paul Jackson, Bobby Howell and Timothy Shrewsbury.
