Margaret Eva Brown
Margaret Eva Brown, 95, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2006, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Margaret was a loving mother of nine children, one child Matthew died at birth, and the remaining eight were raised in Okmulgee. She was active in earlier years in the family shoe store, (Brown’s Shoes) where she worked alongside her husband Melvin, Brown’s Shoes Inc. is now in its third generation of family ownership. She was also a former active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church of Okmulgee.
She was born on October 15, 1911 in Parsons, Kansas, where she attended grade and high schools and Parsons Jr. College. Margaret Eva McKernan married Melvin F. Brown, her high school sweetheart, also from Parsons on August 5, 1932 in Denver, Colorado.
Survivors include three daughters and four sons, Carolyn Orr- Stone Mountain, Ga, Jerry (James) Brown- Langley, OK, Betty Maxwell- Sand Springs, Ok, Janie Ward- Tulsa, Ok, Joe Brown- Okmulgee, Ok, Bernie Brown- Jenks, Ok, and Michael Brown, Frisco, TX. She was adored by seventeen grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren, who lovingly called her Mimi. She was preceded in death by a son Matthew in 1954, her husband Melvin in 1992, and her daughter, Mrs. Mary Phillips in 2005.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Dr. Jimmy Phillips, Kevin Orr, Gregory Brown, Paul Brown, Michael Brown, Ryan Brown, Tyson Brown, and Matt Brown. David Williams will be an Honorary Pallbearer.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the prayers and best wishes for Margaret Brown during her recent illness. She will be forever remembered by those who knew her best as a gentle loving and classy lady. Her long life attributed to her faith in God, her positive outlook in the midst of life’s adversities, and a never-failing sense of humor.

Her family will be available at McClendon-Winters Chapel on Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to express their heartfelt thanks to her friends.
Prayer services will be held at McClendon-Winters Chapel at 7:00 pm on December 7th, 2006. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Okmulgee on Friday, December 8 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Joe Brown officiating assisted by Father Benjamin Vima of St. Anthony Parish.
