Bessie M. Carlton, Okmulgee, passed away Monday morning, September 8, 2003 at Highland Park Manor in Okmulgee. She was 89 years of age. Mrs. Carlton was born May 12, 1914 in Gans, Oklahoma to P.W. and Maude (Gentry) Fish. She attended school in Morris. She married Guffrey F. Carlton on September 5, 1933 in Morris. She was a homemaker as well as a worker in the school cafeteria for many years. Mrs. Carlton was a member of the United Pentecostal Church of Okmulgee. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Amos Fish and Lester Fish, a son, Guffrey Newell Carlton, and two sets of twin grandsons.

Survivors include three daughters, Wanda Brown, of Okmulgee, Betty Cox of Trenton, N.C. and Carol Brock of Moscow, T.X., a son, dale Carlton of Beggs, one brother, O.W. Fish of Boise, Idaho, seven grandsons, one granddaughter and three great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held 10:00 A.M. Thursday, September 11, 2003 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Marvin McElhannon and Terry Harmon officiating. Interment will follow in the Morris Cemetery. Friends may visit the funeral home from 10-8 on Wednesday. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
