Robert Cole
Robert Edward Cole, 83, died on Tuesday,
October 28, 2008 in Clinton, Oklahoma. Robert was born on November 21, 1924 in
Pawhuska, Oklahoma to Isaac and Cynthia (Bailey) Cole. He was a veteran of the
United States Army Air Corp. In World War II he flew over Burma, China and India
dropping supplies to the troops. After 29 plus years he retired as a truck
driver for Safeway. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a past Master, a past
Patron in The Eastern Star, a member of the Scottish Rite, and belonged to a
band known as "Over the Hill" who played for the local nursing homes. He was
also a member of the First Baptist Church.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, several brothers
and sisters, and one grandson.
He is survived by his wife, Opal Belle (Nichols)
Clevenger-Cole, two daughters; Judy Stokes and husband Bob of Webb City,
Missouri, and Jane Campbell and husband Harry of Haskell, Oklahoma, a
step-daughter, Vicky Hollaway and husband Dan of Okmulgee, a step-son, Jim
Clevenger and wife Connie of Okmulgee, a sister, Judy Bernard of Brazoria,
Texas, four brothers; Allen Cole of Byres, Texas, Leonard Cole of Pollok, Texas,
Paul Cole of Portland, Oregon, and Daniel Cole of Warrensburg, Missouri, eight
grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
A graveside service will be held at the Okmulgee Cemetery on
Saturday, November 1, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. with Frank Lewis officiating. Honorary
casketbearers are the grandsons; Michael Stokes, Robert Stokes, Dennis Campbell,
Jeffery Campbell, and Michael Clevenger. Viewing will be on Friday from 1:00 to
8:00 P.M. at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee. The family requests
that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 6465 South
