Harold Coppenger 89, long time resident
of Okmulgee, died in Okmulgee on Saturday, September 27, 2008. He was born in
Keota, Oklahoma to Claude and Geneva Maude (Cunningham) Coppenger on January 13,
1919. Harold was a veteran of W.W. II serving in the U.S. Navy and was retired
from Oklahoma Natural Gas Company. He was a member of the VFW Post 1189,
Okmulgee Elks Lodge #1822 and the First Christian Church in Okmulgee. Preceding
him in death was his parents, his wife of 43 years, Margrete, two brothers and
one sister, and special friend of nineteen years, Margie Butler.
Survivors include one daughter Elizabeth and husband Bill
Torbett of Okmulgee, one son Sam and wife Becky Coppenger of Jenks, Oklahoma,
two brothers Lat Van and wife Nancy Coppenger of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Irven and wife
Charlene Coppenger of Arlington, Texas, two sisters Betty and husband Boyce
Mouton of Carthage, Missouri, Jackie Miller of Claremore, Oklahoma, three
grandsons, 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at 11
am at the Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Lawrence Matlock officiating. Burial
will be in the Okmulgee Cemetery. Casketbearers will be grandsons, Russell
Torbett, Zachary Torbett and Eric Coppenger and great grandsons, Spencer Torbett,
Chandler Torbett and Parker Torbett. Visitation will be on Wednesday, 1-8 pm
with the family present 5-7 p.m. at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home.
