OBITUARY DESK:

Frederick Jackson Courtney, longtime Okmulgee County resident, passed away at his home on Friday, January 3, 2003. He was 71 years of age. He was born July 15, 1931 to Elbert and Margie (Geraldon) Courtney in Alba, Texas. He was a member of the Mounds Pentecostal Church and retired from the Auto Body Business in 1990 after 30 years. He had also been an undercover agent at one time. He enjoyed boating and fishing, and had been active in the Mounds Lions Club.

Mr. Courtney was preceded in death by his first wife, Evon Courtney on June 5, 1989, his parents, two sisters, Virginia Burgess and Joyce Alvis, and a brother, Elbert Courtney.

Survivors include his wife, Leora (Gordon) Courtney, who he married November 19, 1990 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, his children, Randy Courtney, Stanley Courtney, and Bruce Courtney, a step-daughter, Sherry Brookshire, two step-sons, Reginald Rutland and Bobby Rutland, a sister, Zaira Counterman, fifteen grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday, January 6, 2003 at the Fortress of Faith in Mounds with the Reverend Ira Hargis officiating. Interment will follow in the Beggs Cemetery with Will Gordon, Bill Gordon, Robert Gordon, Eldon Gordon, Reginald Rutland and Bobby Rutland serving as casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers will be Benjamin Courtney, Dustin Courtney, Junior Wilbourn, Tony Rutland, Ryan Reyes, and Rick Shelton. Friends may visit the funeral home from 1-8 P.M. on Sunday. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Beggs.
