Charles Edwin Cowden

Charles Edwin Cowden 95, resident of Okmulgee died in Okmulgee on Friday, May 16, 2003. He was born February 13, 1908 in Colorado to E.W.Cowden and Tess Cowden, who were pioneer Okmulgee citizens that established the Cowden Laundry. He was married to Opal Smith and she preceded him in death along with his parents and a brother Bob Cowden and a sister in law Dorothy Barnum. Charles was an internationally known ham radio operator. He was employed and retired from United Geo-Physical Corporation later known as Teledyne.

He is survived by a nephew Steve Cowden of Texas, 3 nieces Susan and her husband Mike Maltsberger of Okmulgee, Becky Barnum of Dallas, Texas, and Jill Cowden of Florida, many friends and other relatives.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, May 19, 2003 at 2 pm at the Okmulgee Cemetery. Rev. Jeffrey B. Cranton, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Services are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee.
