"Dignity without compromise"


John W. Ellis passed away Friday evening, October 4, 2002 in Okmulgee at the age of 56. He was born February 10th, 1946 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma to Archie Jr. and Jewell Ellis and moved to Okmulgee when he was 4 years old, where he attended school. He was baptized by Royce Thompson and was a member of the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn. He was drafted and joined the U.S. Navy in 1965, volunteering for submarine duty, during the Vietnam Conflict, where he was a Senior Technician, and later was a Senior Instructor at Key West, Florida, and San Diego, California until his discharge in 1976.

He was employed by Colter Biological Engineering as Medical Engineer for several years until his retirement.

John was preceded in death by a daughter, Joni Lee and his father, Archie Jr. Ellis.

He is survived by three daughters, Patty, Peggy, and Debbie, all of Okmulgee, his mother, Jewell, of Okmulgee, one brother, Jim and wife Carla of Morgantown, Indiana, four sisters, Judy Joslin of Reno, Nevada, Linda Johnson and husband Allen of Henryetta, Carol Tomlinson and husband Mike of Norman, Oklahoma, Marianne Freeman and husband Pat of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, seven grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, aunt, uncles and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 Tuesday, October 8, 2002 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Jim Ellis and Mr. Mike Tomlinson officiating. Interment will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Cody Tomlinson, Jeff Johnson, Jason Johnson, Jeremy Johnson, Corey Freeman, David Thompson, Jamey Ellis, and Rocky Ellis. Graveside Military Rites will be conducted by VFW Post 1189 of Okmulgee and VFW post 539 of Henryetta. Friends may visit the funeral home from 10-8 P.M. Monday, and the family will receive friends from 6-8 Monday evening at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters funeral Home of Okmulgee.
