Vera Ione Carlson Elmburg
Vera Ione Carlson Elmburg, resident of The Forum in Overland Park, Kansas where she had resided since 1995 and former longtime Miami resident, died Monday morning, March 21, 2005 at The Forum in Overland Park. She was 93 years of age. Mrs. Elmburg was born November 17, 1911 in Minneapolis, MN to Robert and Clara Carlson. Mrs. Elmburg attended the University of Minnesota before she married John C. Elmburg on October 17, 1936 in Minneapolis. His career with Fairbanks Morse took them to residences in Boston, Atlanta, Portland, Chicago and Kansas City. A second career for him began in 1966 when he purchased U.S. Metal Container Company (now Blitz USA) and they moved to Miami, where they lived for nearly thirty years. She was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority, member of PEO Sisterhood Chapter of Oklahoma then Kansas; First Presbyterian Church of Miami; and Letters and Arts; and she served on the Board of the Miami Public Library; member of The Village Presbyterian Church of Prairie Village, Kansas. She was and avid pianist, reader and golfer.
Mrs. Elmburg was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and a brother.
Survivors include her daughter, Jean Helmers of Leewood, Kansas, a son, John R. "Cy" Elmburg and wife Lynda of Afton, four grandchildren, Robert Elmburg and
Wife Rana, Eric Elmburg and wife Heather, Brooke Bremer and husband Lou and John Helmers, and three Great grandchildren, Emily, Elizabeth and Owen Elmburg.
A Memorial Service will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 25, 2005 at the First Presbyterian Church of Miami with Dr. Archie Lawrence officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Library Foundation, Miami Public Library, 200 North Main, Miami, OK 74354, First Presbyterian Church of Miami, or the Integris Baptist Regional Hospital Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
