Mary Catherine (Kay) Gebetsberger

Mary Catherine (Kay) Gebetsberger 84, a lifelong resident of Okmulgee died in Sapulpa, Oklahoma on Wednesday, January 29, 2003. Kay was born in Okmulgee on July 30, 1918 to Frank and Stephanie (Kohlmaier) Gebetsberger. She graduated from St. Anthony’s Catholic School in 1936, then attended and graduated from St. Edwards Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Ft. Smith, Arkansas in 1939. She worked for the U.S. Government in Talihina, Oklahoma from 1940 to 1944, Okmulgee City Hospital from 1944 to 1947. Kay attended Charity Hospital Anesthesia School in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1947. She was a CRNA and practiced at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1985. Her memberships included member of the Government Relations Committee in 1958, member of Approval of Anesthesia Schools Committee in 1959, member of the Convention National Committee from 1961 to 1962, St. Anthony Altar Society, Charter member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and served as Past Grand Regent of that organization and was named Catholic Daughter of the year in 1966, 1968 and 1998. Her parents, and a brother John F. Gebetsberger preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sisters Theresa Andrina of Okmulgee, Martha Vazzo and husband Joe of Tulsa, two brothers Dr. Charles Gebetsberger and wife Maurine of Sapulpa and George Gebetsberger and wife Ann of Tulsa, numerous nieces and nephews.

The family requests memorial contributions to Marian Academy School.

Prayer service will be held at McClendon-Winters Funeral Home at 7 pm on Friday. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, February 1, 2003 at 1 pm at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Fr. Michael Knipe will be the Celebrant. Interment will be at the Okmulgee Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 11 am until 8 pm. at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee.
