Harold Leslie (Pete) Grimmett


Harold Leslie (Pete) Grimmett 84, life-long resident of Okmulgee County, died at his residence on Monday, December 5, 2005. Pete was born in Liberty Morris, Oklahoma on October 3, 1921 to Alvis and Mabel (Miller) Grimmett. He graduated from Twin Hills High School, and a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving over seas during W.W. II. Pete married Marie White on September 30, 1943. They farmed continuously since coming home from World War II, running a dairy farm in Okmulgee County from 1960 to 1973. From 1973 to 2000 Pete has raised short horn Hereford cattle and he farmed 280 acres. Pete served on the Okmulgee county Farm Bureau Board of Directors since 1950, is a member of the Oklahoma Cattleman’s Association and Liberty Baptist Church. He served on the Okmulgee County Excise Board, the Liberty Morris School Board 17 yrs, and the Okmulgee county Soil Conservation Board. In addition to farming, he worked at Oklahoma State University Okmulgee from 1973 until his retirement in 1985. His parents, two brothers; Leonard Dub Grimmett and Alvin Preacher Grimmett, one sister; Nettie Crenshaw and an infant daughter preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife; Marie Grimmett of the home, three daughters; Veda and husband Waylon West of Muskogee, Sandy and husband Floyd Turney of Twin Hills, and Pam and husband Mark Spillar of Pace, Florida one brother Tom Grimmett and wife Janice Grimmett of Twin Hills one sister; Geneva and husband Johnny Roberts of Twin Hills. Five Granddaughters; Melinda West of Broken Arrow, Leslie Chalakee of Twin Hills, Misty Turney of Twin Hills, Danielle Smith of Pensacola, Fl., and Jackie Spillar of Pace, Fl. Two grandsons; Lance Smith of Illinois and Floyd Altares of Morris, one great grandson, Caleb Chalakee of Twin Hills.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, December 8, 2005 at the Twin Hills Gym at 2 PM. Rev. Jeff Ward will officiate. Viewing will be Wednesday at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee 12-8 Pm. The family will be available at the funeral home 6-7 pm on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Okmulgee Cemetery.

Pall bears will be Steve Kouplen, Darrell Ross, Bob Ross, Bob Pinkston, Ed Canaday and Mark Hudson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tom Duncan and all past and present Board Members of the Farm Bureau.
