McCLENDON-WINTERS FUNERAL HOME "Dignity without compromise"
Elmer George Halstead Elmer George Halstead, 83, of Beggs passed away at his home on Wednesday, August 13, 2003. He was born February 11, 1920 on a ranch nine miles west of Fairview, OK to Willie James and Martha (Devereaux) Halstead. He attended Fairview schools and graduated from Fairview High School. He was president of his class and captain of the football team. He married Virginia May Halstead of Fairview. Three surviving children were born; Bill G. Halstead, of Enid, Barbara H. Prewit of Pecos, TX and Karen Janene Wilson of Aquadilla, Puerto Rico. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Halstead worked as a Self employed Cattleman of considerable repute in the Fairview area for many years. He and his brother operated Halstead Meat Packing Company. He moved to Sarasota, FL, where he operated a Meat Packing plant for three years. He returned to Fairview, where he owned and operated Fairview Sale Barn and Enid Livestock Market. He moved to Beggs, OK in 1978 and married his surviving wife, Mary (Tovar) Halstead a son was born, Jorge T. Halstead of Tulsa who also survives. Other Survivors include a sister Faye Eleanor Jensen of Fairview, OK seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother LeRoy Halstead, two sisters LaVon Parks, Margaret Cofer, one grandson David Prewit. Funeral Services will be at the Church of Christ in Beggs on Friday, August 15, 2003 at 10:00 am with the Mr. James Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Fairview, OK at 3:30pm. With Pastor Thomas Swartz of the Central Christian Church in Fairview officiating. Services are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Beggs. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Church of Christ in Beggs or the Central Christian Church in Fairview.
