Lucille M. Hays

Lucille M. Hays, a resident of Schulter, died Tuesday, October 25,

2005, at her home. She was born in Phillips, Okla. July 31, 1913 to

William and Mary (Stevens) McCutcheon.

She grew up in Schulter where her father was a miner and owner of a general store and her mother was the postmistress and an insurance agent.

Lucille graduated from Schulter High School and then earned a degree as a legal stenographer at Okmulgee Business College. Her early work history included jobs as a court reporter in District Court, clerk in the Court Clerk’s office, and secretary in the Okmulgee County Attorney’s office.

On June 4, 1942, Lucille married Richard A. Hays, and Okmulgee attorney. While he was overseas in WW II, she worked in Pryor for the GRDA and in Congressman Stigler’s Washington D.C. office.

After her husband’s death she was a stenographer in the local law firms of Charles Pugsley and Edgar Boatman. From 1975-1986 she was tag agent in Henryetta, Okla.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Richard. She is survived by one daughter, Marcia Sue, of the home; one sister-in-law, Helen Hurt of Okmulgee; one nephew; several nieces and cousins; and one aunt, Pauline Stevens, of Schulter.

Lucille was a kind, generous, caring person and had a big smile for everyone. She will be loved and missed always.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Schulter United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 118, where she was a member for many years, serving in various capacities.

A graveside service will be held at the Okmulgee Cemetery, Friday, October 28, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Lisa Wiens officiating.
