"Dignity without compromise"


Geneva F. Hillman, longtime Okmulgee resident, passed away Friday evening, September 13, 2002 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. She was 90. Mrs. Hillman was born March 14, 1912 in Yeager, Oklahoma to Stephen Arthur and Hattie (Yargee) Betts. She graduated from Okmulgee High School in 1934 and attended Bacone College. She married John L. Hillman on October 17, 1938 in Sapulpa. They moved to Pine Camp, New York during World War II and then Fort Polk, LA prior to the Korea War, always returning to live in Okmulgee. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Hillman was preceded in death by her father, Stephen Arthur Betts, mother Hattie (Yargee) Lasley, and a sister, Velma Yarhola.

Survivors include her husband, Col. John L. Hillman, of the home, a son, John S. Hillman of Okmulgee, a niece, Pamela Acton of Okmulgee, two granddaughters, Heather Michelle Easley of Siloam Springs and Stephanie Gayle Hillman of Broken Arrow, and two great grandchildren, Will Easley and Molly Easley.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 P.M. Monday, September 16, 2002 at the Okmulgee Cemetery with Reverend Gary O. Wilburn officiating. Friends may visit the funeral home from 12-5 on Sunday and 9-1 on Monday. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
