E.C. Howard

E.C. Howard, longtime Okmulgee County resident, died Sunday evening, August 27, 2006 in Okmulgee at the age of 101. He was born December 6, 1904 in London, Kentucky to Jesse and Elizabeth Howard. His family moved to the Liberty Morris area in 1911 and he attended grade school and graduated from Liberty High School. He married May McCullough on January 22, 1930. He retired as an oil field pumper in 1980. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, gardening, and playing baseball in his earlier years. His family lived in the Nuyaka Community for many years and he was a member of the Nuyaka School Board for over 20 years. Upon retirement he and his wife May moved to Okmulgee. They were active members of the First Baptist Church and the B.A.L.L. Senior Adult Group of the First Baptist Church. Mr. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, four sisters and a daughter, Betty Burkett Crawford. Surviving are his wife of 76 years, May Howard, two sons, Gene Howard and wife Virginia of Tulsa and Eddie Howard and wife June of Okmulgee, grandchildren, Dana Barber and husband Jeff of Dallas, Texas, David Howard and wife Robin of Dallas, Texas, Richard Howard and wife Alison of Los Angeles, California, Glen Howard and wife Serap of Bethesda, Maryland, Patty Kleifgen and husband Fred of Tulsa, Clifton Burkett of Cocoa, Florida, Rosanne Carpenter and husband Les of Keller, Texas and Jim Franklin of Tulsa, nine great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 30, 2006 at the First Baptist Church of Okmulgee with Dr. Dennis Taylor and Reverend Frank Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Willie Terry, Jack Tyree, Roy Anderson, Neal Brigance, Earl Caudle, and Dave McClure. Friends may visit the funeral home from 12-8 PM on Tuesday. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee. Condolences may be sent at
