McCLENDON-WINTERS FUNERAL HOME "Dignity without Compromise"
Gentry Hunter Gentry Smith Hunter 91, went to be with
the Lord on May 24, 2007 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Gentry was born in Subiaco, Arkansas on
June 12, 1915 to William Arthur and Minnie M. (Smith)
Hunter. He was the third child born to this union. There
were eight all together. His family moved to Oklahoma in
1929 and farmed for years. In 1946 he moved to California
and back to Oklahoma in 1963. Gentry worked as a maintenance
person in Lompoc, California and for Paddock Swimming Pools
in Fresno and Salinas, California. When he moved to Oklahoma
he became a security guard at OSU Okmulgee. He retired from
there in 1979. Gentry loved fishing hunting and
especially gardening. He had a beautiful yard with trees and
flowers, vegetable garden of everything you could think of,
also some fruit trees. He loved the Lord and was anxious to
go home when he got old and feeble. He had no hate in his
heart and loved everyone. He was preceded in death by his parents,
three brothers and three sisters, his wife Helen of 27
years, one grand daughter Barbara. Survivors include his children James N.
Hunter and Sharon of Trona, CA, Leona Hunter Nelsen and Fred
of Trona, CA, Gentry Hunter Jr. of Luling, TX, Arthur Lee
Hunter and Helen of New Braunfels, TX, Rachael Hunter
Ehrlich of Kyle, TX, Michael Bullard of New Braunfels, TX
and Claude Bryant and Molly of Oklahoma City, OK,
grandchildren: Debbie, Dino, Deana, Becky, Patricia, Art
Jr., Charlie, Johnny, Marci, Jared, Gantry Dawn, thirteen
great grandchildren, one sister Imogene Matthews of
Mannford, OK, many nieces and nephews. Gentry had a very
special friend and companion of seven years, Dorothy Brewer
whom he loved very much. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 29,
2007 at 10 am at the Harvest Community Church with Pastor
Paul Ramsey officiating. Burial will be in the Lenna
Cemetery in Lenna, OK. Visitation will be Monday 2-5 pm. Pallbearers will be James Hunter, Mike
Bullard, Fred Nelsen, Gentry Hunter, Art Hunter and Herbert
Branum, Honorary will be Dino Nelsen, Art Hunter Jr.,
Charlie Hunter, Kyle Buck, Dan McGuire, Shawn Livingston and
Steve Mitchell. McClendon-Winters Funeral Home is in
charge of arrangements.
