Ida Marie Koerner
Ida Marie Koerner, longtime Okmulgee resident, died Thursday
morning, April 27, 2006 at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital. She was 87 years of age.
She was born January 19, 1919 in Bixby to Albert and Jeannie M. (Sunberg)
Koerner. She
graduated from Beggs High School, where she was the captain of the high school
basketball team. She then attended business college in Tulsa and later spent one
year at East Central State College in Ada. Her first job after leaving school
was at the Agricultural Conservation Association as chief clerk. During World
War II she worked for Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa in the bookkeeping department
and in 1942 moved to Okmulgee. On September 1, 1945 Ida Marie went to work for
the Country Treasurer’s office and became the Okmulgee County Treasurer on
February 1, 1971 where she remained until her retirement in 1989. She was a
member of the First Presbyterian Church. Preceding her in death was her parents
and three sisters, Myra Koerner, Vera Ellis and Mildred Koerner. Survivors
include her niece, Irma Guilmette of Tampa, Florida, great nephews, Allen
Whitaker of Cherryville, North Carolina and Jim Hunter of Tampa, Florida, a
great niece, Karen D’Amario of Largo, Florida, and great great nieces and
nephews, Jennifer, John, Stephanie, Laura, Nick and Josh. The family will
receive friends from 2-4 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. A funeral service will
be held 10:00 A.M. Monday, May 1, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church with
Reverend Jeffrey B. Cranton officiating. Interment will follow in the Beggs
Cemetery under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
