Obie Olen Ledford
Obie Olen Ledford, Okmulgee County, passed away
Monday, December 8, 2008 at the age of 90, in Claremore, Oklahoma, where he
resided at The Claremore VA Center. Obie was born November 7, 1918 to Olen Henry
and Bertha Mae (Simmons) Ledford in Stigler, Oklahoma. He was a member of
Liberty Baptist Church. Obie was also a Veteran of World War II serving in the
Army Air Force, a longtime member of the Okmulgee County Farm Bureau, Okmulgee
County Cattleman’s Association, Okmulgee County Fair Board and M & L Water
District. He retired from the ASCS Division of U.S.D.A., but remained very
active in conservation. Obie was also the land manager for Viersen Land and
Royalty. Obie is survived by five children, Don Ledford and wife JoAnn, Jim
Ledford and wife Laura Nell, Sherry Ledford, Ann Ledford, and David Ledford and
wife Cassie, eleven grandchildren, Cal Ledford, Karrie Fisher, Lauri Lee, Jami
Macaluso, Blake Ledford, Aubrey Hager, Kendel Smith, Kyle Ledford, Kyla
Ledford, Walt White and Wade White, fourteen great grandchildren, Codi Yandell, Anber Liddy, Rusty Davis,
Corey Davis, Dylan Fisher, Jaina Lee, Jayli Lee, Jaci Ledford, Clara Macaluso,
Jaxson Ledford, Avery Hager, Nathan Hager, Jordan White and Clay White and one great great grandchild,
Mattie Liddy. Obie was also survived by his brother, Cleve Ledford and wife
Chris of Newart, New Jersey, and a sister, Virginia Burchfield and husband Larry
of Morris. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby (Dixon) Ledford, his
parents and two sisters, Ruby and Hazel of California. Funeral services will be
held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 11, 2008 at the Liberty Baptist Church with
Reverends Jeff ward and David Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow in the
Morris Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. Wednesday evening
at the funeral home. Casketebearers will be Cal Ledford, Blake Ledford, Kyle
Ledford, Scott Lee, Mike Yocham and Ronnie Casselman. Honorary Casketbearers
will be Tom Duncan, Jerry Shoemake, B.K. Watkins, Vernon Yocham and Allen Klaus.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials contributions be made to the
Veteran’s Administration, Alzheimer’s Association or the American Cancer
Society. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral
