Shawn McGertt

 

Shawn Derrick McGertt was born March 28, 1967 in Claremore, Oklahoma to Charlie and Mary Ellen (Cheek) McGertt and died at his Okmulgee home at the age of 41.  Shawn was a loving father who embraced life with a care free attitude, a generous heart and a warm smile that could light up a room.  Shawn was also an avid sports fan, who had a big passion for the Atlanta Braves.  He also enjoyed activities that involved his children.  Shawn was the kind of person that never met a stranger and his heart was as big as his smile.  He will be surely missed by his friends and family.  Shawn was preceded in death by his father.  He is survived by his mother, Mary McGertt, two brothers, Bryan McGertt and wife Jacque of Okmulgee, and Cody McGertt of Tulsa, a sister, Bonnie Jones and husband Jeff of Haskell, maternal grandmother, Nora Manley Cheek of Okemah and four children, Tracy Lynn McGertt of Wetumka, Nathanial Charles McGertt, Joseph Dale McGertt and Zachary Eli McGertt, all of Tulsa.  A Wake Service will be held 6:00 P.M. Sunday, February 8, 2009 at the Belvin Baptist Church.  A Funeral Service will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday, February 9, 2009 at the First Baptist Church.  Reverend Randy Colbert will officiate.  Interment will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.  Online condolences may be sent at www.mcclendon-winters.com
