Zona May Mitchell

Zona May Mitchell, Okmulgee, died Thursday evening, August 11, 2005 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. She was 91 years of age. Zona was born January 1, 1914 to James and Rose (Adkins) Whisenhunt in Bald Hill, Oklahoma. She married Carl A. Mitchell on June 15, 1940 in Tulsa. During World War II she worked for Douglas Aircraft and later retired from LA Mode Cleaners in Tulsa. In 1975, Zona and her husband Carl moved from Tulsa to Locust Grove to retire. In 1990 they moved to Okmulgee. She was a faithful member of First Assembly of God Church in Okmulgee, and greatly enjoyed playing games with the ladies on Mondays. Zona was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Carl in 1997, a son, Doug in 1967, and her twin sister, Zora Day Kiddy. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Steve Reese of Tulsa, daughter-in-law, Rosemary Mitchell of Tulsa, three grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Joe Kuhlman officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-5 P.M.
