Mildred Terrill Parker, resident of Shawn Manor Nursing Home, Ponca City, and former longtime resident of Okmulgee County passed from this life to her eternal reward July 18, 2009.  She was 87.

In celebration of her life, a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 23rd, in the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel, 303 East 7th in Okmulgee, OK, with her grandson, the Rev. Tim Williams presiding.  Interment will follow at the Westlawn Cemetery in Henryetta.  The family will greet friends at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday July 22nd.  Viewing will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Mildred Lucille Graffman, the daughter of Adolf Graffman and Bertha Mae Graffman was born on February 13, 1922, in Henryetta, OK.  She was welcomed home by her baby brother Gilbert, age 2.

Mildred attended Coalton and Schulter Schools in Okmulgee County.  On November 14, 1936, she and Glen Riley Terrill were married in Okemah, OK.  To this union were born three children, Ruth Ann Terrill, Glendal Ray Terrill, and Richard Don Terrill.  Glen and Mildred enjoyed their many friends in Coalton and Schulter during their early years of camping, fishing, hunting, and raising their family.

Mildred was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Ruth Ann, on April 7, 1941.

On July 9, 1955, Mildred and Gayle Parker were married in Okmulgee, OK.  They made their home in Okmulgee, Austin, TX, and Memphis, TN before returning to Okmulgee in 1961.  She was employed at the Retail Credit Agency in Okmulgee for many years and later in semi-retirement work part-time as a dorm supervisor on the campus of Oklahoma State Tech, Okmulgee.

In addition to serving the Lord, Mildred was dedicated to the care of her two boys.  She was a very proud mom and even after her boys were grown and were young men she would ask, “Have you met my boys, Ray, and my baby, Richard?”

Gathering on special occasions with the family was her greatest delight.  She loved making Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner and she especially enjoyed watching the kids and grandkids open their Christmas gifts.  After dinner she wanted the entire family to gather in the living room to sing Christmas carols.

Gayle and Mildred resided at 802 West 8th, in Okmulgee for many years.  She was an excellent homemaker and keeping the lawn groomed was always top priority.  Even after Gayle’s death on May 15, 1993, Mildred still wanted the lawn mowed every week, looking neat and well groomed.

Mildred faithfully watched the Lawrence Welk Show and the Grand Ole Opry on television for many years.  In May 2001, she visited Nashville and had front row seats at the Grand Ole Opry hosted by Porter Waggoner.  On the return trip she saw the Lawrence Welk Show in Branson and while getting autographs of the Lennon Sisters, she told them that she remembered when each of them were born and that she had watched them grow up on television.

After living alone for more than twelve years, Mildred lived at the Okmulgee Baptist Village Senior Center for a couple of months before moving to the Shawn Manor Nursing Home in Ponca City on July 12, 2005.  She was well cared for and loved by the staff, nurses, and aides at Shawn Manor.  “Miss Mildred”, as she was affectionately known, was always ready for a dish of ice cream, some sugar-free candy or chewing gum.  She kept her witty sense of humor to the end and could always be counted on for a good laugh.

She was an avid puzzle worker.  She spent endless hours every day working Word Find Puzzles.  When she would get near the end of a puzzle book, she made sure that someone knew that she was running low and that she would soon need some new books.

Mildred is survived by her sons, Glendal Ray Terrill, and wife Dolores, of Schulter, and Richard Don Terrill, and wife Nancy, of Ponca City.  She is also survived by six grandchildren, Annette Renee Terrill, Fayetteville, AR; Gary Randal Terrill, Schulter, OK; Michael Dean Terrill, West Terre Haute, IN; Ray Terrill, Jr., Schulter’; Pamela Denise Williams, Flower Mound, TX; and Cynthia Michelle Rosebecke, Ponca City, OK; nine great grandchildren and one new great, great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, her husband, and one brother.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Gary Terrill, Mike Terrill, Ray Terrill Jr., Jason Rosebecke, and nephews Charles Graffman and Jimmy Graffman.  Honorary pallbearer will be nephew, Gilbert Graffman.
