Frieda M. Peters

Frieda M. Peters, longtime Okmulgee resident, passed away Monday evening, June 23, 2003 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. She was 87 years of age. Mrs. Peters was born September 8, 1915 in Manheim, Texas to Oscar Herman and Ida Marie (Behrend) Horn. She then moved to Three Rivers, Texas where she met her future husband, Chester Peters. They married on February 16, 1935 in Sapulpa. They moved to several different communities with his job at the glass plant, and located in Okmulgee in 1939. Mr. Peters preceded her in death on December 16, 1975. Mrs. Peters was a member of AARP, the Okmulgee County Election Board for several years, and a member of the Morris Assembly of God Church. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Shirley Peters Mooney, and two brothers, Alfred and Earnest Horn.

Survivors include three daughters, Beverly Rawlings of Okmulgee, Vivian McGowin of El Dorado, Kansas, and Jean Stephens-Buchanan of Broken Arrow, seven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday, June 27, 2003 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend C.R. Franklin officiating. Interment will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Stanley McGowin, Gene Buchanan, Johnny Rawlings, Steve Wheat, Jason Klinck, Shelby Etheridge and John Williams.

Friends may visit the funeral home from 9-8 on Thursday. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
