Mary Evelyn Pettersen, a
resident of Okmulgee, passed away Wednesday morning,
July 16, 2003 at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital. She was 89 years of age. She was
born August 3, 1913 in Warner, Oklahoma to John and Alma (Hensley) Wadley. She
moved with her family to Webbers Falls in 1925 and then to Morris in 1926, where
she attended school. She later resided in Denver for 54 years and returned to
Okmulgee in 1990. In 1944 she married George O’Brien, who preceded her in death
in 1959. She then married Edward Pettersen on January 9, 1973 in Denver. He
preceded her in death on February 13, 1989. After working in the Lutheran
Hospital of Denver for 7 years, Mrs. Pettersen became a homemaker. She was a
Member of the Order of the Eastern Star Unity Chapter for 40 years, the Amaranth
for 38 years, the Railroad Engineers Auxiliary, and the First Baptist Church of
Okmulgee. In addition to her husbands, Mrs. Pettersen was preceded in death by
her parents, three brothers, J.B. Wadley, James Wadley, and Carl Wadley, two
sisters, Iva Marie Wadley and Nancy Irene Cobb, and a step-son, Michael O’Brien.
Survivors include a sister,
Dorothy Weller of Okmulgee, five nephews, Stephen Weller of Okmulgee, Rodney
Weller of Oklahoma City, Jimmy Wadley of Henryetta, Don Wadley of Tulsa, and
Cody Weller of Okmulgee, and two nieces Megan Weller and Sarah Weller, both of
Oklahoma City.
A funeral service will be held
2:00 P.M. Friday, July 18, 2003 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel
with Reverend Frank Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in the Okmulgee
Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Stephen Weller, Rodney Weller, Jimmy Wadley, Don
Wadley, Rudy Tittle, and Gary Moore. Friends may visit the funeral home from
12-8 PM Thursday and on Friday. Arrangements are under the direction of the
McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
