Gilbert C. Phelps, resident of Beggs, died on June 14, 2009 in Muskogee,
He was 85 years of age.
Gilbert was born on June 30, 1923 in Short, Oklahoma
to Scott Conway and Pearl Minnie (Howell) Phelps.
On February 23, 1943, he joined the Army and served
during World War II.
He was honorably discharged on January 21, 1946.
On December 4, 1947 Gilbert married Ester Eve Weaver
in Union Town, Arkansas.
Gilbert was retired from Kerr Glass in Sand Springs
and loved to go fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three
brothers; Charlie Phelps, Clarence Phelps, and Glen Phelps.
Gilbert is survived by his wife, Ester, of the home,
two sons; Gilbert C. Phelps, Jr. and wife Linda of Beggs, and Jerrett Dale
Phelps and wife Sue of Sand Springs, grandson, Doug Phelps and wife Jill,
granddaughter, Evett Cowen and husband Trent, granddaughter, Amy Phelps, and
five great grandchildren.
He also has four brothers; Clayton Phelps of
Cottonwood, California, Jay Phelps of Beggs, Lloyd Phelps of Oilton, Oklahoma,
and Wayne Phelps of Cushing, Oklahoma, and one sister Vera Gerney of Cottonwood,
California, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Graveside services will be on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at the
Seabolt Cemetery near Sallisaw. Viewing
will be on Wednesday, June 17, 2009, from 12:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the
McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Beggs.
