Howard Phillips
On March 12, 2008, the cowboy, Howard
Phillips, moved on to a bigger "spread," with taller grass
and cooler water. Born on June 11, 1908 in Okmulgee County,
Howard lived his entire life in the Beggs area. He was a
veteran of World War II, serving in North Africa and Italy.
In his later years he was fond of telling new acquaintances
that he had done a lot of things in his life, from cowboy,
the army, merchant and much more.
He is survived by a son, Jim Phillips, of
Beggs, Oklahoma, grandsons; Travis Phillips of Ft. Worth,
Texas, Thomas Phillips of Cleburne, Texas, and Matthew
Phillips of Lewisville, Texas, sisters; Eloise Carr of
Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Emma Mroczynski of Canby, Oregon.
Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Emily, his
parents; Deward and Leah (Hargrove) Phillips, and brothers;
Deward, Jr. and Charlie.
Funeral services will be held at the
Beggs Methodist Church on Monday, March 17, 2008 at 10:00
A.M. with interment following at the Beggs cemetery. Viewing
will be at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Beggs,
Oklahoma from 1:00 to 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 16, 2008.
