Effie Mae Porter
Effie Mae (Robinson) Porter
passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at her home in the Liberty Morris
Community. Effie was born to Daniel
and Jennettie Robinson in Daisy, Oklahoma on September 3, 1919.
She weighed only three pounds at birth and was not expected to live more
than a few days. Eighty nine years
later she passed peacefully into eternity having fulfilled her earthly mission
in a most wonderful fashion. Effie
met Paul Eugene Porter while picking cotton and they were married on October 6,
1937 in Okmulgee. She was the last
surviving member of her generation of Robinsons and Porters and she joyfully
anticipated her reunion with her Mother and Father, three sisters, three
brothers, all her in-laws, kinfolk and friends that had gone on before.
She was especially eager to be with her
husband Paul once more and forever.
Effie never, in all her many years, had an enemy or an adversarial relationship
with any person because she had room in her heart only for love and concern for
others. Effie was a talented artist
and her many paintings reflect her unique perspective on a beautiful world.
She loved to crochet and her wonderful creations of colored thread helped
clothe generations of babies and her caps, bedroom slippers, sweaters, ponchos,
and afghans kept family and friends warm and fashionable.
If you ever left Effie’s house hungry it was not her fault.
She loved preparing and sharing delicious meals with all who stopped by
for a visit right up to the very last day.
Effie is survived by eight loving and grateful children and their
spouses; Donna Faye Woods and husband George; Arthur Porter and wife Margareta;
Mary Joyce (Vicki) Hensley and husband DeWayne; Tom Porter and wife Jaree;
Venecia Hodge and husband Ken; Ron Porter and wife Kathy; Paulette Cossey and
husband Bob and David Porter and wife Janice.
She is also survived by twenty two grandchildren, thirty eight great
grandchildren, and three great, great grandchildren and many, many beloved
nieces, nephews and friends. Effie
and her family wish to thank her Doctors and health care nurses; Tammy, Lisa,
Berney, Starr and Carrie for their loving concern and care during her last days.
They were a great comfort to her and she always enjoyed and appreciated
their visits. Funeral services for
Effie will be held 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at the Liberty Baptist
Church. Officiating will be Pastor
Jeff Ward, Jeremy Porter, Charles Deeringwater, and Pastor Ron Lindsey.
Interment will follow in the Morris Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Randy Woods, Scott Woods, John Paul Porter, Kendal
Hodge, Christopher Porter, Nathan Porter, Aaron Porter, Joey Cossey, Jeremy
Porter, and Chuck Nelson. The family will receive friends from 5-7 P.M. Tuesday
evening at the funeral home chapel.
Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of
