Edgar Allen Ray

 

Longtime Okmulgee County Businessman, Edgar Allen Ray of Okmulgee, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2005. He was 86.

Mr. Ray was born September 2, 1918 in Kansas City, Kansas.

He owned and operated businesses for over 50 years in Beggs, where he also served as a public official for over 13 years. He was also a longtime cattleman and served on local and state cattle boards and commissions. He was also a past board member of the Eastern Oklahoma Development District.

He was preceded in death in 1981 by his wife, Doris Pauline (Bates) Ray, in 1995 by his son, David Allen Ray, by his mother and father, Walter Clark Ray and Alice Almyra (Merkling) Ray, three brothers and eight sisters. He is survived by his daughter, Margaret Waller of Beggs, son Johnny Ray of Okmulgee, a brother, Walter Ray of Eureka, California, five grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jeff Vernon officiating. Interment will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery. Casketbearers will be grandsons and granddaughters. Friends may visit the funeral home from 12-8 P.M. on Tuesday.
