Stephen Warland Rhoades
Stephen Warland Rhoades, a
resident of Houston, went to be with our Lord, Monday, October
17, 2005 in Houston at the age of 63. He was born January 25, 1942 in
Greenville, S.C. to William Cator and Lois (Christian) Rhoades. After the death
of his father, when Steve was four, they moved to Okmulgee. He graduated from
Okmulgee High School where he was active in athletics, music, boy scouts, and
his church. He then graduated from the University of Oklahoma as an
Architectural Engineer. He joined the United States Army and served for two
years as a Specialist 5th Class Combat Engineer in South Vietnam.
After returning home from the service, he returned to Dallas and worked for
twenty years with two successful architectural firms and contributed to the
Dallas skyline. He later moved to Houston where he was employed by an
architecture firm. Steve was a wonderful father, son, and brother. A gifted
artist, love for people, and love for our Lord. Survivors include his mother,
Lois and her husband, A.P. Alexander of Okmulgee, his son, Scott William Rhoades
of Dallas, his brother, William Walton Rhoades and wife Diane of Dallas, niece,
Elizabeth Adkins and her family of Dallas, and nephews, Steve Rhoades and his
family and John Rhoades, all of Seattle. A funeral service will be held 1:00
P.M. Friday, October 21, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend
Craig Denslow officiating. An additional service will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday,
October 25, 2005 at the Trinity Bible Church in Dallas for friends of the
family. Interment will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of
the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee. Memorial contributions may be
