Bertie Alyine Russell

Bertie Alyine Russell, 76, a lifetime resident of the Okmulgee area, died Tuesday morning, September 13, 2005 at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital. She was born June 3, 1929 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Joe and Margaret (Polk) Compton. She attended Eufaula Indian Boarding School and worked at Hillcrest Medical Center for many years. She was a lifelong member of the Grave Creek Indian Baptist Church, where she played the piano for many years. She was preceded in death by her father, Joe Compton, mother Margaret Gonzales, a twin sister, Betty Carson, a brother, Billy Compton and a granddaughter, Kyla Russell. Survivors include her daughter, Cindy Russell of Hitchita, four sons, Todd Russell of Hitchita, Bret Russell of Okay, Kent Russell of Rose Valley, MO, and Mark Russell of Meriden, KS, a sister, Barbara Turnbull of Hitchita, eleven grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren.

A wake service will be held 7:00 P.M. Friday evening at the Grave Creek Indian Baptist Church. The funeral service will be 2:00 P.M., Saturday at the church with Reverend Sonny Brazwell officiating. Interment will follow in the Council Hill Cemetery under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee. Casketbearers will be Sam Bass, Rick Powell, Rusty Powell, Norman Daniel, Rick Wesley and Jimmy Buckley Jr. Honorary Casketbearers will be Forrest Gresham, Damon Gresham, Justin Laird and Lynden Huggins.
