Helen Ruby Sitler

Helen Ruby Sitler, Okmulgee resident, died Thursday morning, January 29, 2004 at Rebold Manor. She was 99 years of age. She was born November 24, 1904 in Indian Territory, now known as Okmulgee. She was the first of four children born to James Daniel and Ruby Cora(Trimmel) Gentis. She married Ret. Col. Herbert G. Sitler and they resided in Pacifica, California for many years. Helen returned to Okmulgee 4 years ago and lived at the Plantation House Assisted Living Home where she made many friends. In her youth, Helen attended Tulsa University, taught school in Beggs, and worked at the Bank of Beggs. Throughout her life she was a homemaker and wife. She had been a hospital volunteer while living in California and was a member of the United Methodist Church of Beggs and the Order of the Eastern Star.. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, JoAnn Sitler Joiner, a brother, Hulin Gentis, and two sisters, Pauline McCoy and Allowe Louise Hand. Survivors include three nieces, Dr. Kay H. Mount and husband Dr. Tim Mount of Okmulgee, Maurine Gentis of Victoria, Texas and Carolyn Langston of Beaumont, Texas, a son-in-law, Phillip J. Joiner of Pacifica, California, a sister-in-law, Florence Gentis of Beaumont, and cousins, G.K. Gentis and wife Sue of Jenks, Jean Ann Jenkins and husband Ellis of Jenks, and Nella Maude Martin of Tulsa.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at the Beggs Cemetery with Reverend David Sanders officiating. A reception will follow in the Bright Memorial Fellowship Hall at the United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Beggs.
