Jewel Lee Smart
Jewel Lee Smart, longtime Okmulgee
resident, passed away Monday, December 17, 2007 in Okmulgee
at the age of 72. He was born January 22, 1935 in Celestine,
Oklahoma to Chris R. and Flodie (Young) Smart. He served in
the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion. He
was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church and the
Lions Club for many years. He worked for T.H. Rogers Lumber
Company for 35 years, retiring from the Okmulgee store in
1993. He loved fishing and for many years spent Thanksgiving
Week in the mountains with family and friends camping and
deer hunting. Preceding Jewel in death were his parents,
wife of 26 years and mother of his three children, Margaret,
a brother, and a sister. He married Cora Brown in 1988. He
is survived by his wife, Cora, of the home, a son, Jewel
Smart, Jr. and wife Nancy, a daughter, Bernice Kennedy and
husband Don and a daughter, Norma Smart, two sister-in-laws,
Nellie Smart and Jean Wright, two step-sons, Rick Brown and
wife Karolin and Gerald Brown and wife Pat, six
grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, three great
grandchildren, a special friend Kathy Vining and many
nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M.
Thursday, December 20, 2007 at the Calvary Baptist Church
with Reverend Lawrence Matlock officiating. Interment will
follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Floyd
Largent, Kevin Copeland, Robert Waits, Bill Cowell, Arlan
Smith, Darrell Wright. Friends may visit the funeral home
from 1-8 P.M. on Wednesday and on Thursday morning.
