Vera Dorothy “Dot” Smith,
lifelong Okmulgee resident, died Sunday morning, January 11, 2009 at Highland
Park Manor. She was 86 years of
age. Dot was born October 4, 1922
in Okmulgee to Joseph Conway and Sarah Jane (Clemens) Smith.
She graduated from Okmulgee High School and worked for several years at
Butler’s Cafeteria and retired from OSU-Okmulgee, working in the Twin Towers.
Dot will be remembered most for her dedication and love for taking care
of her family. Preceding her in
death were her parents, two brothers, Wallace and Wheeler Smith and a sister,
Thelma Houston. Survivors include
her sister, Zula Vaughan and husband Cecil of Muskogee, nieces and nephews, Joe
Smith, Carolyn Catlett, Dale Smith, Cheryl Wolfe, Any Houston, Randy Vaughan and
Jimmie Vaughan, and a very special cousin, Granville Smith.
Funeral services will be
held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 15, 2009 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home
Chapel in Okmulgee. Mr. Randy
Vaughan will be the eulogist.
Interment will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Jimmie Vaughan, Andy Houston, Travis Vaughan, Cody
Huston, Granville Smith and Kenneth Catlett. The family will receive friends
from 6-8 P.M. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
