John Franklin Smith

John Franklin Smith, 64, Beggs, Oklahoma resident, passed away at his home on September 21, 2005. He was born on September 26, 1940 in Sapulpa, to Louis Ira and Clara May (Thompson) Smith. In 1960 he married Betty Blankenship in Okmulgee. He graduated from Morris high School, was a member of the First Baptist Church in Beggs, an Honorary Member of the Future Farmers of America. He liked to work with his cows and turkeys. Most everyone knew John by the family business Smith’s Grocery Store. His family owned Smith’s Grocery Store for years, where he worked in all areas of the business. John was a friend to the community. He was a regular sponsor of Little League Baseball and he always supported the 4H and FFA children at the yearly Spring Livestock Show. He gave his life to Jesus Christ on March 10, 1996, much to the joy of his family and was baptized on March 24, 1996. His parents Louis Ira and Clara may (Thompson) Smith, a brother Louis Ira Smith Jr., Donald Ermond Smith, Gerold Smith, Charles Smith, Minnie Adeline Stafford, Alma Louise Fisher and Margaret May foster preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife Betty Smith of the home, his children Brenda Lee Smith of Garland, Texas, Vickey May hardy of Beggs and John F. Smith Jr. of Springdale, Arkansas, a brother Henry Smith of Mounds, grandchildren John f. Smith III, Corey Wade Carter, Ryan Keith Smith, Toby Wade Finley, Corinne Frances Smith and Hannah Shantz.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, September 24, 2005 at 1:00 PM with Reverend Thom Chappell and Reverend Willie Antwine officiating. Interment will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Beggs.

Casket bearers will be Orville Woods, Clarence Hamm, Chuck Strain, Greg Robbins, Danny Cox and Ray Dean Smith. Honorary casket bears will be Richard Roach and J.L. Jones. Viewing will be on Friday, September 23, 2005, 12 noon until 8:00 PM at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Beggs.
