Ethel (Perry) Bowman Smith
Ethel (Perry) Bowman Smith, 93 years and 2 days old, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 23, 2006 after a long illness. She was a resident of Highland Park Manor in Okmulgee at the time of her death. Ethel was born November 21, 1913 in Washington, PA to Elmer W. and Nellie Ellen (Boa) Perry. The family moved to Okmulgee, OK when Ethel was two years old where she was raised, and met her first husband, Gordon Bowman. Ethel and Gordon moved to Illinois in 1941 and returned to Okmulgee in 1964 due to Gordonís failing health. Ethel lived in Norman, OK for a number of years where she owned and operated a dress shop, returning to Okmulgee in 1999 due to her failing health. Preceding her in death are her parents, two sisters, Dorothy Robinson and husband Ollie, and Hazel Welch and husband Donald, four brothers, Cliff A. Perry and wife Isabelle, Elmer Perry Jr., Harold Allen Perry and Richard Russell Perry, and three husbands, Gordon Bowman, Jess Sartain, and Neeley Smith. Survivors include a brother, Robert E. Perry and wife Mary Lou of Okmulgee, a step-daughter, Dortha Cox of Oklahoma City and twelve nephews and nieces. Ethel touched many lives during her lifeís tour and made many friends who have gone on before her. Those of us that are left will miss her greatly but understand that she is in a better place than we are. Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday, November 27, 2006 at the Okmulgee Cemetery with Reverend David Hamilton officiating. The casket will remain closed. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to the Alzheimerís Foundation or Heritage Hospice of Henryetta.
