Helen A. Smith

Helen A. Smith 89, a longtime resident of Okmulgee, died in McAlester, Oklahoma on Saturday, December 9, 2006. She was born in Little Cooley, Pa on February 24, 1917. The daughter of Claude Theron and Mary Ellen Smith. Helen graduated from St. Anthony High School in Okmulgee and then continued her education and graduated from St. Johnís School of Nursing in Tulsa. Helen worked as an R.N. in Flint, Michigan for 10 years returning to Okmulgee to do Private Duty Nursing; she then worked for American St. Gobain for 17 years and for the Okmulgee County Health Department until she retired. She was a faithful member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters and the Altar Society.

Her parents, a brother and sister in law, Frank and Flossie Smith, a brother Thomas G. and DeChantal Smith and a niece Kay Dennison preceded her in death.

Survivors include two nephews Dr. F.E. "Eddie" Smith and his wife Jean Beth Smith of McAlester, and Tom Smith of Colorado, two nieces Mary Ellen Pratt and Martha Kemp both from Michigan.

Mass will be celebrated for Helen on Thursday, December 14, 2006 at 10 am at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Father Benjamin Vima will be the celebrant. Burial will be in the Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Wednesday at the funeral home 11-8 pm. The family requests memorials in Helenís name are made to Hospice of McAlester, P.O. Box 1333, McAlester, OK 74502. Condolences may be made at
