Velvin "Pod" Thomas

Velvin Dean (Pod) Thomas, 67, longtime resident of Okmulgee, died at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa on Friday, November 30, 2007. He was born in Haydonville, Oklahoma on June 22, 1940 to Vern and Lena (Davenport) Thomas. Pod graduated from Nuyaka High School. He was a longtime employee of Oklahoma Natural Gas Company, retiring on January 1, 2005 after 43 years of service. He and his wife, Pearl, were married for 48 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Lester and Charles and one sister, Dorothy. He is survived by his wife, Pearl, of the home, a son, Randy Thomas of Okmulgee, a daughter, Patricia Kilian and husband Brian of Stigler, two grandchildren, Andrew Thomas of Okmulgee and Jennifer Kilian of Stigler, one great granddaughter, Alee Lynn Thomas of Okmulgee, two brothers, Vernie Thomas and John Thomas, both of Haydonville, four sisters, Wanda Walker and Iva Walker, both of Haydonville, Neta Lewis of Okemah and Melva Crawford of Great Bend, Kansas, as well as a host of nieces and nephews, friends and other relatives.

Friends may visit the funeral home starting at 9:00 A.M. on Tuesday. Wake services will be held 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dal Newberry officiating. Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at the First Church of the Nazarene in Okmulgee with Reverend Newman Frank, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Vernie Thomas, Velvin Thomas, Clyde Walker, Wayne Walker, Gary Thomas, Sam Thomas and Roger Walker. Memorial contributions may be made to the Honey Creek Methodist Church, 217 S. 200 E. Ave., Tulsa, OK 74108. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
