Reba Joyce Thomas

Reba Joyce Thomas was born on March 27, 1953, in Wetumka, Oklahoma to Albert and Bernice (Harjo) Thomas.

In 1959, Reba’s family moved from Wetumka, Oklahoma to Dallas, Texas, where she attended school. Graduated from High School, and began her first job for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. In 1973, Reba and her family moved back to Oklahoma making their home in Okmulgee. Reba moved to Hollywood, Florida and again went to work for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. After two years in Florida, Reba moved back to Okmulgee and has lived here since.

Reba worked in the clerical field, holding various positions for the Okmulgee Daily Times, Indian Health Service, Creek Nation Community Hospital in Okemah, Eddie Warrior Women’s Correctional Facility and then retiring from George Nigh Rehabilitation Center after thirteen years with the State of Oklahoma.

Reba enjoyed doing different things, which was proven in 1981 when she attended and became a certified welder and completed welding school. She was a member of the Hickory Ground #1 Baptist Church, where she enjoyed fellowship with other church members. Reba thoroughly enjoyed meeting and being around all people. She was always willing to help anyone if she could. Reba will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.

Survivors include a son Anthony Leo Adams, daughter and son in law April and Marlon Taylor al of the home, two brothers, John and Delia Thomas of Red Oak, Texas, Loy and Diane Thomas of Okmulgee, three sisters Peggy and Recy Lyda, Carolyn and Lois Thomas all of Okmulgee, 12 nieces and nephews, 13 great nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

Reba was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Bernice Thomas, Husband Bryan Adams, uncles Duke and Jim Harjo and an aunt Helen Bunny.

Wake services will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at 7 pm at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel, funeral services will be at Hickory Ground #1 at 1 pm on Wednesday. Rev. Mitchell Taylor and Sonny Braswell will officiate. Interment will be in the Okmulgee Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-8 pm Tuesday.

Pallbearers will be Victor Thomas, Sean Thomas, Eric Thomas, Christopher Thomas, Zachary Thomas and Adam Harjo. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kevin Brown, Quinton Allen, Skyler Allen and Scott Clifford
