Nola Umsted
Nola Maxine Umsted, 84, longtime
Okmulgee resident, died Monday evening, December 22, 2008 at Rebold Manor. Nola
was born March 12, 1924 in Wetumka to Everett and Pearl (Webb) Chastain. She
graduated from Pleasant Ridge High School and married Troy Leon Umsted. She was
a chief telephone operator in Dumas, Texas before returning to Oklahoma in 1962.
She was a member of the Second Baptist Church in and enjoyed crocheting and
cooking. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Nola was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, Rex, Doug
and Clifford Chastain and three sisters, Millie Elzy, Norma Wiebe and Lora
Umstead. Survivors include her son, Jerry Umsted and wife Cathryn of Okmulgee,
two granddaughters, Tamra Kilgore and husband Cecil Kilgore, Jr. and Vikki
Goodwin and husband Phillip, all of Okmulgee, great grandchildren, Joshua and
Rachel Goodwin, two brothers, Fred Chastain and wife Gladys of Morris and Clark
Chastain and wife Nellie of Wetumka, a sister, Babe Frye of Dumas, Texas and
numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M.
Monday, December 29, 2008 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel with
Reverend Jimmy Lopez officiating. Interment will follow in the Wetumka Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Cecil Kilgore, Jr., Phillip Goodwin, Joshua Goodwin,
Freddie Chastain, Leon Elzy and Bill Umsted. Friends may visit the funeral home
on Sunday from 1-8 P.M. Arrangements are under the direction of the
