Maudie Cleo Powell Vierling

Maudie Cleo Powell Vierling, 86, was born in Morris, Oklahoma on September 19, 1920. She was one of seven siblings born to Charles F. and Geneva B. (Winegar) Powell. Maudie was a life long resident of Okmulgee. She loved to cook big meals for her family and took great pride in being a Cub Scout Den Mother. Maudie was a full time loving mother while her boys were growing up and later went to work at OSU-Okmulgee as a resident manager until her retirement. Preceding her in death was her parents, husband of 67 years, Johnnie Addison Vierling, a son, Gary Vierling, three sisters and two brothers. Survivors include one son, Johnnie Arthur Vierling and wife Lu of Checotah, three grandchildren, Jill of Coppell, Texas, Jennifer and Jeramy of Okmulgee, three great grandchildren, Jonathan, Stoney and Devin of Okmulgee, one sister, Dorothy Stewart Gaither of Henryetta and a daughter-in-law, Debbie. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Maudie passed from this life on July 30, 2007 at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Friday, August 3, 2007 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Richard Cogan officiating. Interment will follow next to her husband in the Okmulgee Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Gary Hessom, Bud Gaither, Bobby Stewart, Phil Blevins, Arley Strome, and David Powell. Honorary Casketbearers will be Mike Muehlhausen, Gene Harmon, Carl Hessom, Albert Jones Ed Hahne, Jimmy Bussey and Odis Huskey. Friends may visit the funeral home from 10-8 P.M. on Thursday.
