"Dignity without Compromise"

Dorothy Irene ‘Dot’ Wilson

Dorothy Irene ‘Dot’ Wilson, a long time Okmulgee resident, passed from this life on Friday, march 9, 2007. Dorothy was born on February 7, 1918 in Texas to Robert Harrison Hammons and Daisy Mable Dean Hammons, the middle child of seven children born to that union. She had just celebrated her 89th birthday with a host of family and friends.

She was married to Vernice Ray Wilson on June 21, 1945 in Austin, Texas, upon his return from being held as a prisoner of war in Krems, Austria. Together they had two daughters, Judy Kaye and Linda Rae.

During recent years when congestive heart failure made it difficult to manage independently, she was loving cared for at her home by her daughter and son-in-law; lifelong family friend, Carrieanna Mabrey; caregivers: Cathy Anderson, Cleo Swayze, Donna Guinn, Ann soma, Loyce Ledbetter, Carla Jean Smith, Rita Payne, Judy Hankins and Carla Smith.

She was greeted in heaven by her parents, her husband of 59 years to whom she was the consummate caregiver during his long battle with Parkinson’s Disease; her loving daughter, Judy Kaye Evans, brothers and sisters: Jestin Hammons, Edwin Lee ‘Cub’ Hammons, Alene Ford Arnold, Wanda Randolph and Bonnie Mason.

Left to remember and carry on her legacy are her youngest daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Terry Moore of Okmulgee; brother, Jim Hammons and wife Jean of Muskogee; grandsons, Ryan and Jeff Evans of Tulsa, Shawn Evans of Arkansas; granddaughters and husbands, Lindsay and Eric Buell of Pasadena, MD, Casey and Jeremie Miller of Moore, OK; great granddaughters, Ashlynn Rae Evans and Anna Kaye Evans; and soon-to-be born her first great grandson, Greyson Terrell Buell; sisters-in-law, Hazel Rutherford, Helen Wilson and Earlene Stains. She also is survived by a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a fund set up for her red-headed legacy, her 2 year old great niece, Summer Jean Simons, who has been battling acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) since she was 21 months old. Donations can be sent to:
