"Dignity without Compromise"
Melvin Wilson, Okmulgee resident, died Saturday morning, January 10, 2004 at his home in Okmulgee. He was 85 years of age. He was born October 13, 1918 in Omaha, Nebraska to Clyde Lee and Lois (McAdoo) Wilson. When Melvin was an infant, the family moved to Altoona, Kansas. His mother died in a flu epidemic when he was 13 months old. He was raised by his grandmother, aunts, and uncles. He then moved to Buffalo as a young teen, graduating from High School in 1936. He then joined the air force, serving from 1941 to 1945. He married Geraldine Wilson on September 22, 1946. To this union two daughters were born. Melvin began his walk with the Lord in 1950.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Geraldine Wilson, of the home, two daughters and husbands, Pat Turnbill and Larry, also of the home, and Lois Nichols and Don of Tahlequah, eight grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 10:00 am Tuesday, January 13, 2004 at the First Church of the Nazarene in Okmulgee with Reverend Larry Stone officiating, Interment will follow in the Buffalo Cemetery in Buffalo, Kansas at 4:00 pm. Services are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee.
Casketbearers will be Rick Turnbill, Kevin Turnbill, Jeff Turnbill, Monty Nichols, Dennis Nichols and Bob Hibbert.
